Event Overview
CLAN proudly partnered with Lehigh University and IndigenousNCDs to present an event parallel to the 66th session of the United Nations Status on the Commission of Women. The theme was ‘The Nexus Between Climate Change and NCDs: Indigenous Women-Led Solutions’. Speakers included Patricia Gualinga, a human rights and environmental activist from the Kichwa People of Sarayaku in the Ecuadorian Amazon; Prof. Daisy Purdy, the co-founder of Inclusive Community Consulting, an Indigenous-led equity and advocacy consultancy group focused on holistic health; and Kaitlyn Hunsberger, a behavioral health aide student support coordinator at the Northwest Portland area Indian Health Board and member of the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation in Arizona, United States.
It was an interactive dialogue that shed light on Indigenous women-led movements that are sustainably mitigating the effects of climate change and the increasing prevalence of NCDs. Our speakers shared their deep knowledge and empowering lived experiences as Indigenous women leaders.
The event was a great success, with inspiring and insightful discourse along with questions from participants that ignited important conversations about the intersection between climate change, NCDs and indigeneity. CLAN thanks our partners, speakers and participants for making this such a successful and informative event!
