Building Communities for Children living with Chronic Health Conditions

If you ever wondered just how important it is to help families of children who are living with chronic health conditions to come together for support and encouragement, then please take a moment to read this inspirational message (copied below in green)... Sent by the Filipino Osteogenesis Imperfecta Club to the Vietnamese OI Club, to be shared on the occassion of the Inaugural OI Club Meeting in Hanoi, at the National Hospital of Pediatrics, on 14 November, 2011, this message speaks to the responsibility we all share to help those who are most alone and vulnerable.

Sincere thanks to Wishbone Day for helping CLAN connect the Vietnamese and Filipino OI Communities together ahead of the OI Club Meeting in Hanoi.

We all have a role to play in helping children with chronic health conditions enjoy the highest quality of life possible - and it's not necessarily hard or expensive to make a genuine difference!

MESSAGE TO THE OI COMMUNITY OF VIETNAM

Greetings from the Philippines, to the Vietnam Community, most especially the Vietnam OI Community , CLAN and the Dee Why Rotary Club.

First of all, on behalf of OI Support Philippines, I would like to congratulate the OI Community of Vietnam for the commencement of your support group, which I’m sure, is most awaited by all of you. Having a support system gives you a sense of kinship & belonging, of being understood by somebody like you and your children. It is definitely true that nobody understands you more completely than someone who’s going through the same path, most often the path less travelled.

Setting up a support system is quite a feat, most especially in third world countries like yours and ours. Your group is given the opportunity to be recognized, with the help and support of your community organizations who believe that your children deserve a better quality of life. I encourage all of you to step up and rise above the challenge of a new beginning for you and your children - - your very own support group, your OI family. The hard work, effort, and time that you put into it will eventually be rewarded. Just be patient and do not waver.

Let us help together in the advocacy of raising OI Awareness for a better quality of life for our children with osteogenesis imperfecta. This is our ultimate goal as parent advocates, and the greatest gift that we can give our children and the generations to come.

Again, congratulations to all of you. Live with hope and positivity and remember we are all in this together. Good luck!

THÔNG ĐIỆP DÀNH CHO CÁC BẠN BỆNH XƯƠNG THỦY TINH VIỆT NAM.

Lời chào thân ái từ Philippine gửi đến Việt Nam, đặc biệt dành cho các bạn bệnh xương thủy tinh, dành cho CLAN và câu lạc bộ Dee Why Rotary.

Lời đầu tiên, đại diện nhóm hỗ trợ bệnh xương thủy tinh tại Philippine, tôi hân hạnh chúc mừng Clan và các bạn Việt Nam vì sẽ bắt đầu thành lập nhóm hỗ trợ cho những ai mắc bệnh xương thủy tinh tại Việt Nam, tôi chắc chắn rằng, đây là điều tất cả các bạn mong đợi nhất. Nhóm hỗ trợ sẽ cho các bạn cảm giác về sự gắn bó và thân thuộc, cảm giác được thấu hiểu bởi những người giống bạn và con bạn. Một sự thật hiển nhiên là không ai hiểu bạn nhiều hơn những người cùng hoàn cảnh với bạn, nhất là khi bệnh xương thủy tinh là một bệnh hiếm gặp nên dễ nhận được sự đồng điệu từ những người đi chung một con đường.

Thiết lập được nhóm hỗ trợ cho trẻ em bệnh xương thủy tinh quả là một kỳ tích, đặc biệt tại các nước thuộc thế giới thứ ba như quê hương các bạn và đất nước chúng tôi. Mọi người sẽ biết đến các bạn, rồi những tổ chức, hiệp hội mà họ hiểu rằng trẻ em xứng đáng được hưởng một chất lượng cuộc sống tốt hơn sẽ giúp đỡ và hỗ trợ các bạn. Tôi cỗ vũ tất cả các bạn hãy mạnh mẽ hơn và vượt lên trên những thách thức vì một sự khởi đầu mới cho bạn và con bạn – vì nhóm hỗ trợ của chính bạn, vì cộng đồng những người bệnh xương thủy tinh. Những cố gắng, nỗ lực, và thời gian mà bạn đầu tư rồi sẽ nhận được thành quả về sau. Hãy luôn giữ sự kiên nhẫn và đừng bao giờ dao động.

Chúng ta hãy giúp nhau trong công tác tuyên truyền, hưởng ứng để nâng cao nhận thức về bệnh xương thủy tinh nhằm cải thiện chất lượng cuộc sống của trẻ em bệnh xương thủy tinh. Đây là mục tiêu tuyệt vời với trách nhiệm làm cha mẹ của chúng ta, và đây món quà lớn nhất mà chúng ta có thể cho con mình và các thế hệ tới.

Một lần nữa, tôi xin chúc mừng tất cả các bạn. Hãy sống với niềm hy vọng và những suy nghĩ tích cực và luôn nhớ tất cả chúng ta cùng hỗ trợ nhau. Mong các bạn có thật nhiều may mắn!
