About this Fundraiser
CLAN has been proud to support efforts for and with the Nodding Syndrome and Epilepsy Communities of Uganda since 2017. During the COVID-19 Pandemic, our regular community development activities have been hampered, so we consulted with the Epilepsy Community of Butabika Referral Hospital to better understand their needs and priorities at this time.
Members of the Epilepsy Community suggested that smartphone and internet access would help families connect with one another and also communicate more easily with their healthcare professionals. Our hopes for this fundraiser were to purchase mobile phones and data plans for Community leaders and members living in the most vulnerable circumstances. Each phone and data plan costs AUD$250, and will remain the property of the Epilepsy Community of Butabika Hospital. Our goal is to purchase a total of 10 phones over time to help the Community grow stronger and more connected. Once a family gets on their feet and are able to afford to buy their own phone, the CLAN phone will transfer to another family in need. CLAN thanks Dr Andrew Twineamatsiko and Dr Birabwa for their support with this initiative.
Coordinated by Sienna Gates and Grace Strik on behalf of CLAN, this trivia night was a fantastic night of competition, connection and contribution. Our fundraising goal for this event was $500 (to help two families have access to phones), and we are excited to announce that we more than doubled this goal, thanks to your generous donations!
