Meet Tara Chelvam: CLAN United Nations Youth Representative

​My name is Tara Chelvam, and I am from the San Francisco Bay Area. I am studying Population Health and Biostatistics at Lehigh University's College of Health. In this role as a UN Youth Representative for CLAN, I aim to raise awareness of the resources needed to support children and families affected by non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and help them overcome socioeconomic challenges.
​Outside of my work with CLAN, I am involved in various health research projects at Lehigh, focusing on non-communicable diseases. These opportunities enable me to initiate research in NCD prevention while advocating for other remarkable voices as a CLAN youth representative. I also serve as the president of the College of Health Student Advisory Council and Vice President of Internal Affairs for the club, Southeast Asia at Lehigh.
As a UN Youth Representative for CLAN, my biggest goal is to leverage these platforms and events to support communities doing this revolutionary work and ensure access to healthcare for young children living with chronic health conditions. This is the most rewarding part of the experience because it highlights the important work they’ve done.
