Meet Elizabeth Page: CLAN NCP Scholarship Holder
Interview from 16th October, 2023
What are you studying and at which institution?
Master of Public Health at the University of Western Australia
Tell us a bit about yourself.
I have been married for two years to my wonderful husband, Josh. I love spending time with people, traveling, eating good food and am a big fan of animals. I am excited by opportunities to learn more about other peoples' cultures and ways of life, and love trying new things.
What motivates you to work hard and to do what you do?
As a Christian, I am motivated by a love for all people that flows out of God's love for me. This has created in me a heart for serving and empowering others, particularly those who are marginalised and disadvantaged in our world. This love motivates me to work hard in all I do in the service of others.
How and when did you (or will you) start working with CLAN, and what motivated you to do so?
I will start working with CLAN at the end of this year, through a New Colombo Plan Scholarship. I have been motivated to work with CLAN as I am interested in exploring what public health looks like in the Indo-Pacific region, and getting experience working with an organisation that is doing really important work for children and their families.
What is your role (or will be your role) within CLAN and what projects are you currently working on (or will be working on)?
I will be an intern working with CLAN on a range of projects. I will be supporting newborn screening efforts, patient register updates, as well as supporting the local team to capture MATES4Kids indicators. I will also be working to write up a story on fludrocortisone in Indonesia.
What advice would you provide to people who want to get involved with CLAN?
Go for it! The team are so lovely and accommodating. They genuinely want you to get the best out of the opportunity and want to see you use your strengths well to serve the people and communities they work with.
What are you most excited about working on with CLAN?
I am so excited to learn! To learn from the local professionals in Indonesia about the health issues there, as well as the abundant strengths of Indonesian people and communities. I am excited to learn more about what public health work looks like and the opportunities out there to valuably contribute to the field.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In 5 years, I would love to be living somewhere in the South-East Asian region with my husband and maybe even a family. I would love to be working in the health promotion and education space or in community development and empowerment.
