Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH) is an inherited condition affecting the production of two hormones by the adrenal glands – cortisol and aldosterone.

Fortunately, these two hormones can be readily replaced with hydrocortisone and fludrocortisone tablets. These medicines are included on the World Health Organisation’s Essential Medicines List for Children. When these medicines are used appropriately (they should be taken every day for life, with regular follow up by specialist health professionals) children with CAH should expect to live long, healthy and happy lives.

Unfortunately, children and families living with CAH in many low- and middle-income countries are not able to affordably access the medicines and care they need to survive and thrive. CLAN is committed to working with CAH Communities internationally to drive sustainable solutions and long-term change.

Acknowledgement of Country. In the spirit of reconciliation, CLAN acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia and the connections of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to land, sea and community. In particular, we acknowledge the Wallumedegal Peoples of the Eora Nation, on whose land CLAN (Caring & Living As Neighbours) is headquartered. We pay our respect to Elders past and present and extend that respect to all First Nations leaders around the world.
